Future Outlook

Booster Juice has expansion plans into Brazil with 2 new locations opening in Curitibia, Brazil. The CEO of Booster Juice, Dale Wishewan believes that it will be a great way to gain brand recognition in Brazil as the population is a lot smaller at 1.8 million compared to Rio De Janeiro at a population of 10 million. He also believes that the brand will do well because Brazil will be holding the 2014 FIFA World Cup as well as the 2016 Summer Olympics. There is also hope that they will open locations in The United Kingdom as well as Qatar in the near future. Dale Wishewan states that his goal has always been for Booster Juice to be an international company and is cautious in only starting to enter 2 to 3 international markets a year to start brand awareness. In my opinion this is also to be able to test the market and not go to far expanding into new markets if things don't go so well.

History

The idea for Booster Juice was created when the co-founders of Booster Juice as well as good friends Dale Wishewan and Jon Amack went on a camping trip in Oregon. They were talking about the American market for smoothies and how it was growing and wondered if there were any smoothie company's in Canada. The answer was no not yet and from there they decided that they would be the first to introduce a smoothie company to Canada. After their trip they returned to Canada and Dale began to study the Canadian market of fruit juices. A few month's later he bought a bunch of blenders, fruit and other equipment and started to make smoothies out of his garage and basement. He started experimenting with different fruits and recipes and had friends and neighbours come and test his products. He spent 5 months working almost 18 hours a day experimenting and perfecting his recipes. In November of 1999 the first store was opened in Sherwood park in Edmonton. All though it was hard to make a profit during the Canadian winter months Dale kept at it and in January he had received some inspiration from a customer that had driven a long way from his home with his family just for Dale's smoothies. This gave Dale the confidence that the business would be successful in the long run. Dale and Jon decided to expand the business by creating franchises which became very successful. Thus began the expansion of Booster Juice. In 2003 they entered the US Market. In 2007 there were over 50 stores across Canada and the following year over 100 stores from coast-to-coast. As success continued they decided to expand internationally. Currently there are 254 Booster Juice locations in Canada, 200 in USA, 15 in India, 4 in Mexico, 3 in Saudi Arabia and 2 in The Netherlands.

Smoothie Market

The market for smoothies in Canada is vastly growing. While the fast-food segment grows at about 5% a year the juice and smoothie bar market is growing at a rate of over 25% a year. The market in the states is already huge, an industry that tops more then a 1 billion dollars a year. There is a great need for health conscious people to have something available to them on-the-go. Place's like McDonald's, Burger King, Taco Bell, KFC, etc. offer quick and comparatively inexpensive meal choices for people who need to eat quickly on lunch breaks. But the food these fast food giant's offer isn't good for you. People today understand the importance of being healthy which starts with eating healthy. But still people don't always have the time to go home and cook themselves something healthy. That is why I believe place's like Booster Juice are doing so well because it offers these healthy choices and can fit in with your time constraints. I believe that place's like Booster Juice will see a great amount of growth in the next few years because more and more people are becoming health conscious.

Founders - Dale Wishewan And Jon Amack

Before they were the Co-Founders of the major franchise Booster Juice, Dale Wishewan and Jon Amack had other plans for their lives. Here is an insight into the the lives of the co-founders before they created Booster Juice.

Dale Wishewan was born and raise in Waskatenau, Alberta. He had always wanted to be a Major League Baseball player every since he was a boy. He even got a scholarship to the Portland State University in Oregon for baseball. At this university he was also taking a mechanical engineering program. He soon realized that he wasn't destined for baseball as he felt wasn't as good as some of the pro's so he decided to end that dream. After University he went and worked for a company called Edmonton Exchanger where he worked in international technical sales. It was there that he learned a lot about business from the founder of Edmonton Exchanger, Henry Gusse. Dale believed that someone needed to start a healthy alternative to the fast food market and on a camping trip with a good friend of his, Jon Amack they came up with the idea to start a smoothie company in Canada. Dale did very well on the stock market and his friend Jon aso was very successful in his own business so they put there money together for the start up funds to create booster juice. Not as much is known about Jon Amack. We know that he and Dale met at the University of Portland because they were both in the mechanical engineering program. We also know that Jon asked dale how the smoothie market was doing in Canada on a camping trip they went on together and explained to Dale the popularity and success of different company's in the states. And that the 2 were always business savy as even before the graduated they were doing very well importing Viper security car alarm systems to Canada. Neither of them had any restaurant experience prior to opening Booster Juice.

They recognized that the juice and smoothie bar market was growing in the United States and wanted to be the first to penetrated the market in Canada. Their belief was that quality products would out weigh profits in the long run to grow a business.
